The entire lower Potomac River is part of the State of Maryland, The South Branch Potomac River lies completely within the state of West Virginia except for its headwaters, which lie in Virginia.

The Susquehanna River is approximately 444 miles long The Susquehanna forms from two main branches, with the North Branch, which rises in upstate New York The shorter West Branch rises in western Pennsylvania. The river drains 27,500 square miles covering nearly half of the land area of Pennsylvania and portions of New York and Maryland. The river empties into the northern end of the Chesapeake Bay, the estueary of the Susquehanna, provides half of the freshwater inflow for the entire Chesapeake Bay.

Pamlico Sound is part of a large interconnected network of lagoon estuaries. It is a body of water separated from the Atlantic Ocean by the Outer Banks. There are seven sounds making up the whole: Albemarle Sound, Currituck Sound, Croatan Sound, Pamlico Sound, Bogue Sound, Core Sound, and Roanoke Sound.
