Lake Marion (along with Lake Moultrie) was created in the early 1940s by the Santee Cooper Project. It covers about 110,000 acres of land in five SC counties: Berkeley, Calhoun, Clarendon, Orangeburg, and Sumter. It is home to Santee State Park, which is located just outside of Santee near I-26 and I-95.

Early and late spring are popular for crappie and saugeye fishing. Anglers from all over the country come to John Martin Reservoir early to mid-summer to fish for bass and wiper. Gulf coast - Pickwick Lake - Eagle Lake - Pascagoula River - Striped bass mostly in the MS River. White bass are in all the flood control reservoirs and spillways. Occasionally a hybrid shows up in the spillways - they come in from the MS River from other states (usually AR or TN).

Harry S. Truman Lake
Truman Lake is a 55,600 acre impoundment constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for the purposes of flood control, hydropower generation, and recreation. Truman Dam impounds portions of the South Grand, Osage, Sac, and Pomme de Terre rivers, as well as numerous smaller tributaries.

At maximum pool, the lake overs 1,628 acres of the some 6,000 acres managed for public recreation and wildlife. The dam on Red Willow Creek is a zoned, earth-filled structure, 126 feet high and 3,159 feet long. Completed in 1962, it measures 30 feet across at the top with a base 820 feet thick. The lake provides primary or supplemental irrigation for 28,524 acres of land
